Even if you don’t want a specific role within the Committee but are prepared to help us, please come forward. As I mentioned earlier the survey gave us some good feedback on what members want, but we need more people on the Committee to help deliver on the requests, the simple fact is that without additional resources we won’t be able to do the things that you’ve asked us to. Survey Results

Thanks to everyone who responded to our request for feedback, we appreciate it.

We intend to discuss this some more at the AGM, but there were some common themes that came out, in brief these are.

  • Most people find out about events/activities via our website and Facebook page and also their coach
  • People want more competitions within Hampshire for Juniors and lower graded adults to take part in
  • There is interest in becoming coaches, but very little interest in becoming either a referee or table official
  • Many of the events we run in Hampshire always seem to be supported by the same clubs
  • As a Committee we need to improve our communications to members/clubs

The winners of the Survey results will drawn ‘out of the hat’ at the AGM.

Courses

The BJA are running two courses on Sunday 29th June in Basingstoke, one is Time to Listen (TTL) http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/events/nspcc-time-to-listen-ttl-club-welfare-officer-training-6  and the second is Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/events/sports-coach-uk-safeguarding-protecting-children-workshop-spc-5 . The TTL is primarily for Club Welfare Officers and, in an ideal world, head coaches would also attend, space permitting. The SPC is a requisite for every coach and both courses  ‘expire’ after three years so must be retaken.

Chris Doherty is also looking to book a Matside 1 and a Matside 2 Coaching course, he has a venue in the North of the County and would like to find a club in South Hampshire to host another. Please contact chris.doherty@britishjudo.org.uk if you can help with this.

Hampshire Games

The games this year take place on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st June in Aldershot. Local Council’s Sports Development Officers (SDO) will be arranging trials to decide on the team from their Borough to compete on the Saturday. Further information is available within your local authority SDO here http://www3.hants.gov.uk/shiow/sporthampshire-events/hampshire-games/sporthampshire-hampshiregamessaturday.htm

Hampshire Judo Committee

Do you know that Hampshire Judo’s Committee isn’t staffed by British Judo Association staff nor run by The BJA? Do you know that due to Data Protection the BJA can’t give us a list of Hampshire Judo members nor their contact details, hence the reason why this email comes from Peter Beard our BJA Service Manager and also why we’re working hard to keep our website www.hampshirejudo.org.uk and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/hantsjudo/ updated with information on a regular basis.

The Committee is run by Hampshire Judo players all of whom are volunteers and don’t receive any payment for the work that they do. They all share a common ground which is that they are all passionate about their practice of Judo.

The aims of Hampshire Judo are:-

  1. to foster and develop the practice and spirit of Judo within the framework and constitution of the BJA to the highest possible standard and with that aim in view
  2. to promote the teaching of Judo in clubs, schools and elsewhere throughout the County of Hampshire
  3. to organise suitable training courses for players and officials throughout the County of Hampshire
  4. to provide opportunities for players of all levels to take part in competitions and grading within the county.
  5. to provide the opportunity for everybody to participate in judo without discrimination.

The committee isn’t perfect, we make mistakes, we don’t always get things right but we all do our best and we’ve stepped up to help. All of us within Hampshire, Players, Coaches and Clubs alike want to see Hampshire Judo thrive and succeed. If you can help us to do that by joining the Committee and helping us to deliver the five points above we’d welcome your support to do that.

At the AGM on 6th April we need to be able to appoint some new Committee members to support what we are doing, we are actively looking to fill the roles of

1.            Secretary

2.            Squad Coach

3.            Welfare Officer

4.            Volunteers Coordinator

The Committee Roles are outlined here https://bharatmushrooms.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Hampshire-Judo-Committee-Roles-Jan-2014.pdf if you would like to nominate someone for one of these roles, please can you email secretary@bharatmushrooms.com 14 days before the AGM or if no nominations are received people can be nominated on the day.

Please help if you can.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks

Bryan Andrews
