Hampshire Team Championships Round 3 (December 2 2012) report.

Here are the results of the third round of the Hampshire Team Championships, this marked the half way point in the championships. With three more rounds to be completed in 2013 (Feb 3, Mar 3, Apr 7).


This round saw 4 teams compete, Holbrook, Southampton University, Southampton Solent University and a team comprised of players form a variety of clubs calling themselves “3 Girls and a Lad”.

The event started with top of the table Southampton University up against Holbrook in their second appearance in the championships. Southampton University took the match. Next up was the “3 girls and a lad” team against Southampton Solent University. This was another all Ippon affair ending in a tie break match which gave the points to the mixed team.

Match three had Southampton Solent University against Holbrook, the match was again full of Ippon throws and ended with a solitary with for Solent; Holbrook were too strong and took the match.

Fourth up, the mixed team lined up against the on form Southampton University Team, who dispatched their opposition without giving away a contest in the match.

Fifth, the mixed team came immediately back on to fight Holbrook. Holbrook took an initial lead before the mixed team brought the scores even again. Holbrook took the decider with a osae komi.

Last match was the “Derby Match” between the two university clubs from Southampton. Southampton University taking it decisively with only one win to the Solent team.

After three rounds, the senior Hampshire Team Championships is gaining in popularity and the number of Ippons shows that Hampshire Judo has some Judo throwing Judo to show off.

The Junior event saw six clubs represented. Winchester Judo Club, Southern Judokan, Winchester College, AWE, Osaka and Summit.
