Judo recognised at the Basingstoke Sports Awards 2012

Friday March 2nd saw the 2012 Annual sports awards take place at the Appolo Hotel in Basingstoke.

Over 100 players coaches, volunteers and officials were recognised for their roles in their relevant sports at the meal and awards ceremony while many other people were nominated for the awards . Those nominated that did not make the finals attended a civil reception on 6th March.

3 Judo players were recognised at the awards itself they were.

Shelley Ludford of Osaka was recognised for being selected for taking the girls -52kg British Champhionship and being selected for the England and ExCell training sessions. Her award included a grant towards travelling costs etc.

Len Dunce  – Founder of Summit Judo Club that is celebrating it’s 40th year this year was recognised in the “Service to sport” categories making the finalists. Len has spent time as a Player, Coach, Referree for the BJA and has given up many hours of his personal time to ensure his students enjoy every minute of their Judo.

Paul Hamilton – Coach at Summit Judo Club, AWE Judo Club and Summit School of Judo made finalist and was recognised for the work not only in clubs but local schools and colleges promoting the sport in the “Coach of the Year” category. He now teaches over 200 Students in the Basingstoke and Deane area every week some of which made the Basingstoke team that won the Hampshire Youth games this year after only 6 months of training.
