The Hampshire Judo Association is very pleased to congratulate Petra Piears of Alton Judo club in East Hampshire on her recent Masters Sportsperson award from Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight!

The annual celebration of sport is a joint venture between Hampshire County Council, Sport Hampshire & IOW and the Local Sports Councils & Forums in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.  Hosted by Sport Hampshire & IOW, it is the only county-wide event to publicly reward commitment, performance and excellence across all sports, in performance, coaching, officiating, volunteering and service.

More than two hundred athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, teams and clubs were put forward to receive an award.  The record number of entries underlines the strength in depth of sporting talent and commitment across the

county.
Speaking at the event, Councillor Keith Chapman commented,

“Tonight has been a fantastic celebration of sport throughout our county.  The shortlisted nominees and winners reflect not only the quality of local sporting achievement, but also the incredible dedication and commitment of the many unsung heroes – the coaches, volunteers and officials who together make Hampshire and the Isle of Wight such a great county to participate in and enjoy sport.”

SPort HAmpshire and IOW LogoThe Awards benefitted from the support of a number of local businesses and organisations who came together to help share the celebration of local sporting excellence.  The event was featured on BBC Radio Solent in the build up to the event, the venue was supported by Halo Conferences at Southampton Football Club, whilst support was also received from Active Nation, Biscoes Solicitors, Coaching Hampshire & IOW, Hampshire 2012, , Promo Logo, Sport Structures and Toucan Design.
