Special Needs Judo Club Launched in Hampshire

The Judo club is situated in Hollywater School in Bordon, Hampshire.

Founder member and Head Coach is Fiona Prudence

President of the club is: Peter Powell (Elected by its members)

Fiona has just recently been awarded her UKCC Level 2 Award but has always helped support other coaches. This award has given her the incentive to be able to branch out as an Independent BJA coach to pursue her ambition to help and support the area that has been neglected by some Judo parties which is the Special Needs group.

It is hoped that the club can help raise the profile of Special Needs and help gain support within the Judo Community in Hampshire. With Fiona’s first hand personal experience dealing with her two boys and being involved with aspects of Judo for special needs linked with her contacts it is hoped to convince other Judo groups that there is a place for this group of players  within the judo community in general and not just on the fringes or at specially provided competitions.

Looking to the future the club will be looking at the possibility of being allowed to let the Judo Community become members of the club, once permission has been granted by the Head Teacher of the school. The school is there to help and support all avenues of special needs in all matters and prides itself on focussing on good community relations where the emphasis is on inclusion not exclusion. It is hoped therefore that this permission will be given and help bring the two communities together as one.

A new facebook page for this new club is being developed by a member of the club which will be up and running shortly as well as being included in the club list for both the BJA and Hampshire websites.
